Before & After School Care
Who We Are...
We are a government licensed Before & After School Care Center, since 2008. We provide services for school-aged children, Kindergarten to Grade 6.
Our Philosophy Children actively learn about the world around them through their everyday experiences. We at ROC Childcare understand that we are entrusted with this key role to create environments which support early learning and exploration that sets a strong foundation for children’s lifelong learning and developments. The Philosophy of ROC Childcare is to create an atmosphere where the development of your child can be fostered in a positive creative and supportive environment. Thus, striving to implement a well-rounded curriculum through the use of Language, Culture, Art, Math, Global Learning, Health & Wellness, Social & Emotional Development, STEM, Environmental Learning, Media & Technology, we believe that, young children will strongly benefit from an affirming approach that encourage positive interactions with other children and with adults. Furthermore, when the occasion calls, we encourage the Project approach learning. Our philosophy is based on the principle that children learn best by doing, and by actively being involved in a variety of developmentally beneficial child-initiated, mentally, socially, physically, emotionally and as well adult-initiated, play activities. The major goal of our center program is to provide high quality well-rounded, childcare that gives children a solid foundation for their future developments and growth. With the help and feedback from our children’s parents we are able to plan and explore a flexible program directed towards our children’s best interests. Children and their families are entitled to a safe, flexible and nurturing, play and learning environments with a schedule and routines that best suit the individual needs of each child in our care. Children are respected, valued and accepted unconditionally, regardless of family dynamics, ethnic backgrounds or origins, cultures, socio-economic status or physical or mental challenges. Together, children, parents and our community, we all play an important role in setting a solid foundation for each child’s learning and development.
Goals and Objectives

Goals for your children at the centre: a) Mental Needs: A well-rounded learning strategy encourages children in developing intellectually by experimenting and exploring with the environments around them, and furthermore by exploring, gathering, sharing ideas and information. Exploring an idea directed towards any of the nine different types (LLN, CA, GL, HW, EL, MT, SED, STEM or SCB) helps children with the variety of developments such as language and the ability to think skillfully. While their focus might simply be to brainstorm ideas for a project, or researching ideas to explore, sharing these ideas, acquiring new ones, accepting others ideas, and developing new projections do benefit children and their peers in learning the ability to share and cooperate in a team environments. A well-rounded learning, challenges children to be adaptable/flexible in their thoughts and environments. It also helps them develop their awareness: thoughts in response to what is going on around them. b) Emotional Needs: Children will be encouraged to develop confidence and independence through actively participating and interacting with others at the childcare center and learning activities. This action will help create a stimulating environment where children can feel valued and build positive self-esteem. Also, children will have the chance on working to develop an awareness of self and ability to express their feelings and emotions in a socially appropriate way. The focus will be encouragement on effort and perseverance, rather than performance or abilities. Through sharing, cooperating and interacting with others in a positive manner, children will be able to increase their awareness of social situations and appropriate classroom behaviors. Individuality will be encouraged by celebrating differences found in the group of children and by constant recognition of the uniqueness of each child. This will guide children to learn respect and responsibility for each other, their Childcare center space, their toys, and by cooperating and helping peers in play and cleaning up together. By encouraging in building self-esteem, positive interactions with their peers, respect for self and others, and a sense of belonging, children will have a better chance to develop empathy, kindness and assertiveness towards others and themselves. c) Spiritual Needs: ROC childcare strives to provide a welcoming environment for all attending children to explore on a daily basis. By exploring a well-rounded curriculum, children are allowed to be the creator of their own ideas where they can feel safe in exploring their own imaginations. Each child attending ROC childcare has been and always will be celebrated for their uniqueness. This learning style allows for children to explore questions and ideas close to the heart. Our center thrives on being multicultural, and all children are accepted regardless of race, religion, but strongly encouraged to share their beliefs, cultural experiences and thoughts. We always try to work with parents in close proximity, in order to create a safe, open, and full of positive experiences environments to encourage each child to explore their potentials while incorporating these ideas towards the community they thrive in. Ideas remain as such, until a child could see the applications, purpose and outcomes. By allowing flexibility in teaching and learning this allows children, to see how their views are incorporated in the real world and their community. d) Physical Needs: Children at ROC child care are encouraged to experience open and flexible environments where playful exploration, problem solving and creativity are encouraged and purposefully planed throughout their day, month and year. During this time children are presented with purposefully designed opportunities with indoor and outdoor environments. Throughout the day, pending on weather and conditions, all ROC childcare students, will be provided with opportunities to develop both their fine motor and gross motor skills. Fine motor skills will include Art & Craft, drawing, painting, writing, knitting etc. Fine motor skills will be guided and promoted through craft types of activities with the use various art/writing materials such as paper/pencil, painting, play dough and manipulative toys (i.e. melt beads, coloring, DIY project building s). Gross motor skills will include action/ group games, scavenger hunts, dancing, or many outdoor plays. Gross motor skills will involve planned group games and movement activities while playing outside or at the gym.
